Low budget follow focus for 99p?

I just had the idea of using one of those cheap silocone wristbands to increase the surface area of focus ring on my 50mm f/1.8 lens.

I wrote a blog post on it, what do you think of the idea?

I've seen video of people using those silicone jar openers for a follow focus. I actually picked two of them up, but haven't tried them yet (hmmm, think I just found my afternoon project...).

Whilst technically not a follow focus, it does give you that little bit more surface area on the ring. Hard to make focus marks on though, as given the silicone it's likely to shift around unless it's super tight

When I had that EF 50 lens, I used just such a band to allow my real follow focus gear to stay in place.

For cheap focus pulling with a manual focus lens, nothing beats the 99 cent dryer vent hose clamp trick..

I've pulled off my REAL follow focus and switched to my hose clamp version when under stress to get a shot.
