Matte box buying advice

Evening everyone (from the UK),

I am looking for advice on purchasing a Matte box for my Panasonic Lumix G7.

Firstly, would one even need a Matte box - could I simply purchase lens filters instead?

And secondly what would I need to take into consideration when purchasing one?
