This animated and interactive infographic was developed by the team at Entertainment Media Partners, which is lead by Adam Leipzig, former President of National Geographic Films. By visualizing data about the most important film festival in the world for independent filmmakers, we are able to see trends and learn much about the business of independent film. Key findings are that over $4.6 billion was invested in films submitted to Sundance, reaffirming our claim last year that indie films as a whole are equal to being the 8th major studio. 80% of all feature films at Sundance will get a distribution deal of some sort, which is a drastic increase over past years and due to what we call The Great Digital Shift. Over 400K people worked on making all films submitted to Sundance, and the festival itself could have as much as an $80 million economic impact for the state of Utah ... further evidence to the power of the indie film biz.
