Meaning of this "Directing" quote

"Directing can be the greatest job in the world, but only if you let it".

- Eli Roth

Does anyone know what he means by "only if you let it"?

Thanks.

A director position is only one job, but you have everyone on set's problems when things go wrong. If you're not strong, confident and can take the stress, then it's not for you.

It sounds a bit like a spiritual statement.
You can bring your ego to set and clash about everything or you can choose to cooperate with the team and not let negative emotions take control.
