Intro / How to get into filming?

Hey guys, just registered here and looking to get into filming / video editing etc. I would like to learn a bit more about video and how it is made, and maybe make a few short videos of my own to post online or something. Anyone have some tips or direction for a newbie?

Thanks,
Frank Watson :)

Welcome Frank!

First start by reading the posts on this forum. You will
find a lot good advice for beginners - what camera to get,
what mic to get, how to light well using DIY equipment, how
to find actors, how to get locations.

Then make a movie.

There is no better direction for a newbie to take than
getting a few friends together and making your first movie.

And then about 10 more....

Well said directorik.

If you're hopelessly wanting to make movies Frank, nothing will stop you, and everything will fall into place.

I recommend you get a steady job, start saving money, and get a decent HD camera. If you don't have a lot of overhead, you should be able to get a very nice camera in less than a year.

Thanks guys great to know, I have a modest amount of money available for a camera so I can probably buy something decent, if not top of the line at this point. I will be sure to look around the forum and then I guess time to get that camera and get rolling! It sounds like this is going to be a great place to get advice and guidance on this stuff - thanks again for the help =)
