Reasonable Mic For Starting Out

I'm slowly working out what equipment I'll be picking up so I can get started on my very first short in around mid-April. Camera's picked out, I'm getting an awesome deal on a new computer for editing, found a few "quick'n'dirty" items to stand in for more expensive lighting equipment (since my budget is severely limited).

What I'm trying to work out now is a reasonable microphone for my audio, and an adapter to plug it into the mic in on either my camera or my computer.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can go any higher than $100 Canadian (plus tax). Are there any suggestions for something that will do the job until I can get something better?

Thanks in advance!

You are only going to get garbage for that price. The current popular starter mic for indie filmmakers is the Rode NTG-2. With the basic accessories (but no boom pole) it's about US$270.00.
