watch FRAMELINES

I'm producing (and editing/directing) a new TV series called FRAMELINES about filmmakers in our state. The show is intended for PBS, so it was toned down for a more conservative vibe with music and pace. It's a 30 minute per episode show about filmmakers and film related stories to open the minds of our community to indie film as something legitimate and of interest to more and more people.

Here's the intro and title sequence I made:

or at VIMEO at:

We shot with the Sony Z1U downtown and then I made the title sequence in After Effects based on a highly modified template from VideoCopilot.net where I made it film-frame specific, added all the video clips and wound up with over 300 individual layers animated. Then I edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 to add the music and transitions and color correction. Dino Tripodis, the host, is a drive time DJ with Sunny 95 FM in Columbus Ohio and an avid film producer/actor here.

By all means, let me know what you think.

Awesome. You've really nailed that PBS atmosphere, too. In fact if you hadn't mentioned it, I would have commented something along the lines of "this looks like something I'd see on WGTE." Any chance it'll play in Toledo?

Thanks for the nice comments, all. I appreciate it.

The goal is to get it on as many PBS stations in the state as possible. It's a political minefield, but we're gonna try. We're going to do 1 episode a month, and each episode will air between 2-3 times each month, at least we're hoping so far.

We'll never get in Cincinnati because they already have an amazing show called VIEWFINDER, which kicks ass in it's own right. We can't/won't compete with that show. They've done a couple things with me already that were so good, so we won't even try to interfere with their ratings or timeslots.

Their format is entirely different, but it's still an incredible show. I love their show. I just don't think the Cincinnati market has room for 2 filmmaking shows on one PBS station...

Cool! If you wouldn't mind blasting some showtimes my way once you know of any, I'd love to become a regular viewer. I can pick still up WGTE in Detroit with my rabbit ears and want to branch out beyond British Comedy Saturday. I wouldn't imagine you'd have too much trouble getting it on a lot of PBS affiliates in the state...my brother-in-law did a doc for his Master's thesis about the decline of record stores in America called "Closing Doors" about three years ago and it's still airing occasionally on PBS stations in far flung locations. Usually between 4-6 AM.

I really love that line about filmmaking being the new garage band...bumper stickers and T-shirts should be issued.

I wrote that for the script. It's the title of the first chapter of my filmmaking book....

In the 1990's when Korean and Mexican electric guitars were being manufactured so dirt cheap, the rise of the garage band hit the U.S. (and world) hard. Today, with cheap 24p HD camcorders and people editing movies on laptops on every corner; the filmmaking really has become the new garage band. This site itself is the greatest example of that trend and has been for nearly 10 years.

Real nice intro, I'll be watching if i can find the channel over here.

Indie has given life to the garage band, so true. Will this be a running theme in the show?

Mickey Fisher rocks. I love this guy's movies. He's got great, heartfelt low budget features.

We have an airdate finally! APRIL 2011, FRAMELINES WILL BEGIN TO AIR ON PBS in OHIO!!!!

Here is a sample of our "Roundtable" segment, this one on screenwriting.

I think there is a ton of great info in here for people working on their scripts.

Wow! Congrats, Sonny.

I wish I lived in your area to see these.

After they air, the whole segments will go online, most of them in extended form.

George Clooney is directing a film in Cincinnati right now, so we're hoping to get some footage of him on set this week.

cool names in the show

Here are some promo's we did for the show, and it shows some minor star power. Appearing in this are Bruce Davidson (X-men films), Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas), Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galactica, not Survivor), PJ Soles (Halloween), and Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother)
