Duct tape to make someone look younger?

In one of the book I was reading (What They Don't Teach You at Film School by Camille Landau and Tiare White), they listed many uses of duct tapes on the set. One of them is:

"To lift the face of an aging actress who had to play herself twenty years younger. It really worked. At worst, she looked like she had an overzealous face-lift. She wore the duct tape to her car and out to dinner with a new date, so we knew we were on to something."

I don't understand how the duct tape is used on the face of a person to look younger. Does anyone know what the author is talking about?

WTFFFF you dont use duct tape.

Use 3m medical tape. And apply a layer of liquid bandage to the skin beforehand, its a layer of protection so that the tape isnt directly stuck onto the skin.

its a macgyver face lift.. and like bubblegum it's only temporary

I have that book. It's a bit old, but lots of good advice still. Yes, they're just using duct tape to make a facelift. Like sfoster said, please don't actually put duct tape on your actor's skin. It can leave welts and scaring.
