Sennheiser lavs

So I was listening to the Rode wireless lavs and comparing with the G3. The G3 has way better sound (£300 vs £600) but I wanted to ask if it was the mic or data transmission issue.

Specifically, if I buy the Rode gear and later on down the line upgrade the mics, will this make a significant difference?

Which is a transmitter/receiver, not a lav...

Upgrading the mics is always a good thing; whether or not you notice the improvement in quality will depend upon the wireless system you are using, as well as all the other pieces of your signal chain - cables, mixer, recorder.

BTW, consider the fact that almost all professional production sound folks routinely replace the ME-3 lav that comes with G3 kits with something substantially better.

Hmmmmm…..

Such a conundrum; how to invest in your career.

I guess one question is "How imminent is work?" The next is "How frequently will I be working?" And "How many do I need to get?"

After that it comes down to how quickly (whatever that is in your lexicon) can you come up with the difference between the RodeLink and the G3.

For a cheap option, I like the Rode lavs over the stock Sennheiser lavs. The Rode transmitters/receivers, not so much. Even if you can live with the lack of control, IMO they're too bulky to really consider useful.

I strongly dislike the bulkiness of the RodeLink's TX pack.

I bought a RodeLink Filmmakers Kit due to kta very cheap price as my first ever wireless. Well.... never again!!
