I'm stuck

People,
I have an idea for a movie that is doable. I mean, I have the resources to make it happen. Let me tell you a little about it.

8 inch tall Claymation-like models come to life in a house and carry on with a zany and fun adventure, all the while trying to not be discovered moving by the people who live there. Those people just think they are little models.

The adventure portion is coming along nicely but there is one question that I can not come up with a satisfactory answer to; what the hell are those little Claymation models doing there?

Maybe the man in the house has grand kids who brought them.
Maybe a kid in the house made them
maybe the man in the house was making Claymation movies to entertain his grandkids.
Maybe they came out of a Saturday morning tv series. They popped out of the screen!

All of these sound too contrived to me. I'm just not buying it. I like the idea that the models are clay and not ceramic or any other material. I want them to look similar in style to Mr. Bill and Slugo.

Any ideas?

My wife and I still have all of the clay sculptures our daughters created in art class throughout their school years. Maybe school projects come to life?

OR

I know that you are doing Claymation. but can they be more realistic? My Mom used to collect Hummel figurines.

Maybe their Hummel collection (or something similar) comes to life.

The idea of bringing Hummels to life is good. Someone should do that,, but not me :)

I never saw Toy Story so I couldn't say what the toys were doing in that show. Do they come to life when the people leave the room? I know there is a cartoon called the Brave Little Toaster that had household items come to life; lamps, a toaster, a radio..... so, no. It's not a new concept but it's still a good one. It hasn't been done to death and, hopefully, it hasn't been done the way I intend.

The models will look like Claymation models but if this project ever comes to be, they will come to life though the magic of CGI. I chose the look of Claymation models (or Mr.Bill if you remember him) because I like the aesthetics plus, from a technical angle, using CGI, I won't have to build advanced puppets with hair and muscles and clothing simulations. The biggest challenge is getting the shader to look right so it looks like clay... and I've already done that.

Filman, unless things change drastically, this will be a family film.. Is that a genre; family film? Let's see, there's Drama, Horror, comedy, sci-fi, musical, porn.western..... what about mystery (who dunit), family......

What do you think?

The clamaytion models were made for a prospective television show that got cancelled before it ever premiered. The models have been depressed ever since. When a young filmmaker movies into the home, they are excited that they may finally get their day in the sun (i.e., on television).

I don't really get why you don't like your 4 suggestions about the reason the clays are there! Just choose one of them. I'm guessing though, that you don't like them because they don't really fit to the plot you have in mind. Personally, I should know the plot, to find a good reason, which reason, is ultimately the core of the plot!

Panos, The 4 ideas I put in the first post just don't feel right to me. You have to set the stage before you can start the show. If there is not a plausible reason for these clay figures to be there then the show starts off on a bad note. Not just that. The reason must also be interesting.

I came up with an idea last night that I want to spend some time considering. The idea that we don't know why they showed up until later in the story. If the man of the house goes into the backyard to cut the grass and discovers these models in the grass and thinks that some kids next door must have thrown them over the fence..THAT gives a reason for them being there BUT it isn't the real reason. We find that out later... What is the real reason? I have an answer for that, and I'll tell you, but not yet.

Velusion, I liked a lot your first 4 ideas, but this 5th idea was amazing! You seem very good in what you are doing. I like a lot the way you are thinking!

Maybe the kids of the house start playing with these clays and that would be a common secret between the kids and the clays. And maybe the clays, through funny shows, reveal some truths about the father... or maybe at the end we never learn the reason they were there, but, through some way, they gave again the lost happiness in the family, and in the last scene we see them lay down, smiley, to the grass of another house, or maybe.. ok I stop.. :P
