Film Transfer

I had a great shoot on Sunday and have shipped off my film for processing. While I wait, I have been looking into telecine transfer and I am a little confused about what is best for me. This being my first foray into s8mm filmmaking, I have some basic questions:

What is the difference between regular telecine service and "rank transfer"?

Which transfer would give the best/highest quality result? (cost is not a concern)

Is transferring to mini DV the best choice? I am going to edit on my computer.

Lastly, does anyone have any recommendations for a good film tranfer place in the Los Angeles area?

Thanks :)

You wan to do a "RANK" transfer. Rank is the name of the machine. A "regular" telecine is also often called a "CHAIN" transfer. That's where they us ea projecto & put it directly into the lens of a camcorder. It's no where NEAR the resolutiuon & quality of a rank telecine machine. Not even by a 1/3.

Always go with the rank transfer, if you can afford it.

Call FILM & VIDEO TRANSFERS and ask for Doug & tell him Ross from Sonnyboo sent ya. I've done many many transfers with them. www.thetransferstation.com is the BEST telecine for Super 8 in the world & their price are better than fair.
