Copyrighting Scenes

Hi,

I wanted to know if it is legal to copyright scenes without having to write the whole screenplay. I have some good ideas for films and since I can't write them all, I was wondering if I could write the scenes I have thought out and copyright them.

Thanks,

BWC

You cannot copyright an idea. If you write a scene about
(for example) a young man meeting a young woman on
a Ferris wheel, you cannot now own the copyright of the
idea of a a young man meeting a young woman on a
Ferris wheel. You can copyright a scene of four criminals
planning a bank heist, but you cannot copyright the idea
of four criminals planning a bank heist. You can copyright
those scenes, but you cannot copyright the idea, or the
words they speak to each other.

I agree with sonnyboo; it is legal to copyright a scene you
write. But if you are thinking that that will mean no one
ever can use the idea in your copyrighted scene you are
mistaken.

Thanks, I get what you're saying about not bieng able to copyright IDEAS. But what I want to do is just write the scenes I have thought out and copyright them.

But no one can take the way my scenes are written, right? They have to write the idea in a different way.
O, and how old do I have to be to copyright something?

Thanks,

BWC

Someone CAN steal your scenes... but it's up to you to prove the copyright AND prove that they stole it.

You can be any age and pay for the copyright registration.
