Are wide angle lens needed?

I've never used a wide angle lens on my miniDV camcorder, what am I missing? And what do you use your wide angle lens for?

Personally, I can't live without 'em. Allows you to get that shot you want, when shooting in tight spaces. Greater freedom to move the camera wherever you want. Also, a tight shot looks completely different on a wide lens - some like it; some don't. I like it.

As was said, useful in tight spaces when you can't get a lot of distance from your subject, and are a different "look". I love them. My default lens for master shots is a 28mm as opposed to a 50mm most people use.

What type of camcorder are you using?

Chances are, it's already a pretty wide lens. Most stock and consumer zoom lenses are.

Also, try to stay away from wide angle adapters. They raise the f/stop pretty drastically and it's already super high on a fixed lens camera.
