FTC?

I was going to post a message regarding my next film on a film financiers forum yet I was cautioned that I might be breaking FTC rules. Anyone know where the line is regarding pitching a film project? I thought it was that if you singled someone out then you couldn't request money but if it was a public call to interested parties, thereby they initiate the talks, it was alright.

Anyone?

I don't know anything about what the FTC rules are, but seeking investors is strictly regulated by the SEC. In a nutshell, you can ask as many people as you want as long as they are know to you personally. When you start asking outside of your personal circle of acquaintances, you are limited. Please don’t take heresy advice here - even mine. Check the laws in your state regarding investors.

If you make legal mistakes early on these could be used against you in the future.
