Summer of 84 - 7/10

I love teen horror movies with 80's vibe. Other than that this movie had a new ending which surprised me. If I have to summ it up it is a mixture of "Stranger things" and " Disturbia" .

Men Don't Leave

7/10 from 1990.

Some pretty good performances with young Joan Cusack, Chris McDonnell and Kathy Bates.

Kinda uneven at times to portray each of the characters in a unique way.

The Score by Randy Newman was a nice 1990 score.

It was clear watching it that it was directed by the same director of Risky Business in many of the ways the scenes were setup and actor interaction took place.

Ocean's 8

I like the actresses well enough but I've been bored to death every time I tried to watch an ocean's film. This one really surprised me, it was an ensemble ocean's film that I actually enjoyed. Maybe because they took it down to 8 it was a much more manageable number.

There is one bit of counter-security that doesn't work because it contradicts what was said earlier in the film but it was a rather minor subplot point.

Spoiler: They said there are no blind spots in the camera's security system except the bathroom door, but they later reach up and put a digital screen in front of one of the cameras to trick it and steal other jewelry. This implies they were in a blind spot otherwise they would have been seen reaching up to the camera from another angle!

The haunting of hill house - 9.2/10

Goddamn! Just... goddamn!! Horror tv shows are rare enough, let alone a good one! This one blew me away. SO deep and complicated a story, masterful directing, superb narrative drive, great twists, sublime dialogues, great ending! The only reasons I'm not giving this a max score are because the first couple of episodes pick it up really slowly, but as you progress the pace gets faster and more interesting, and this show is based on somebody else's novel, so I'm not sure I should give the whole credit to the show runners for the plot.

Life of the Party (2018) - 5/10

Few scenes, here and there, are funny.

Disagree.. 3/5 these 10 episodes should've only been 6 episodes.
Butter spread over too much toast.

It's like someone watched oculus and then turned the 2 hour story into a 10 hour story with a worse, less exciting ending.

You just subtracted almost half the score for this issue?! come on man . I mentioned this problem too, but that's not that big an issue to give it a score like that. Sure the show feels too long at FIRST only. After episode 3 it all gets better. Everything else is pretty much solid in the show. Horror genre have always had limited options for endings. either the evil( ghost,..) wins or the protagonist. Spoiler: This one went on a middle line between these two. No one was the winner in this show that's what I loved about it. Maybe the complicated story line ( tampering with the "time is not linear" idea ), good and evil ghosts co-existing together and forming a complicated relationship, not knowing the reason is haunting or psychological or both, ... maybe these things did not appease to you. On the contrary I think the ending was strong if you followed the whole 10 episodes detailedly and patiently.

3/5 to me is something that is average.. it's not a bad score but it doesn't make itch for more either.
I watched all the episodes in one day so I definitely followed the whole 10 episodes.. the last episode was the least scary and also connected the least with me emotionally unfortunately. I felt like they sucked all the tension out of the situation by Spoiler: having happy good ghosts that were consumed by the house.. like its nbd.

I actually enjoyed the earlier episodes more
In the beginning they were all like .. Spoiler: I saw mom! No that's not your mother! Making it sound like the ghosts were scary and inhuman. then later on they do this switch like the ghosts are friendly and it really is the mom.. uhh okay but thats not scary

Yeah, story wise, I don't know how much of this show is based on the novel. Maybe the novel was like this and they wanted to stay loyal to it. The thing that I enjoyed most from this, was the reactions of adults stuck in this situation. Of all the horror movies or shows you have watched, can you name even one where the protagonist weren't a complete dumb, stupid-a** person? Spoiler: This one was the first to show how an actual adult reacts to supernatural phenomena. and the mixture of psychology and hauntings was a really neat and frankly new idea. I agree the last episode felt heavy on the drama side than horror. But in the storm episode the one cut directing was so superb it really delivered that feeling of unease to me.

Bad Times at the El Royale

3/5 stars, was fairly entertaining. With a more well rounded cast and a true auteur it could have been really fantastic.

Also saw:

Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight

4/5 - I loved this movie as a kid and saw it again. The first 30 minutes were a lot cheesier than I remember, but it is billed as comedy/horror. I think it is some of the best depictions of demons in a movie, certainly one of the best "raising a demon from hell," scenes I've seen. I really enjoy honest attempts at depicting the ultra supernatural, things that are ambitious and steeped in lore, brought to life on screen. It is the most interesting part of cinema to me, if it's done well. Billy Zane was badass in it, and Jada Pinkett is a cutie.

Yes the sheriff in Stranger Things was a breath of fresh air among all the idiot bumbling cops in horror films. I especially liked how they teased his first introduction that he was going to be incompetent and then he wakes up after his coffee

I know what you mean but I don't consider stranger things a horror show really, it was more like an adventure thriller.

i know what you mean too.
I watch very little horror because of all the terrible writing and stupid characters.

I don't suffer through that foolishness.
