DON’T CALL ME A DOCTOR
A short film produced under the SAG Short Film Agreement.

ABOUT THE FILM: A 30-page rolling dating comedy about two late-20’s naive brothers who embark on a dating adventure you won’t forget, spurred on by their needling Aunt Marge, and guided by their out-of-touch Uncle Morty.

ROLES TO BE CAST:

[ETHAN BERNSTEIN] Male. Late 20’s. Caucasian. 5’5”-5’10”. Black or Dark Brown hair. Athletic, Slender build. Ethan is an overachiever and a know-it-all even though all he knows are academics. He has the typical sibling rivalry relationship with his brother, David, and is reluctant and mostly cynical to try anything new, but ultimately he is a good guy at heart, who has just never unleashed his true personality. Always a bookworm, but also a long distance track champion.

[DAVID BERNSTEIN] Male. Late 20’s. African American / Black. 5’4”-5’8”. Average to Plus build. David is a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, and is always the optimist, despite his brother Ethan’s defeatist attitude. A bookworm his whole life, but he doesn’t let that deter his confidence to approach people. Must be able to drive the picture car (an 80’s Cadillac) short distances.

[MORTY BERNSTEIN] Male. Late 50’s – Late 60’s. Caucasian. 5’4”-5’10”. Possibly balding. Athletic, Slender build. “Uncle Morty” is the ultimate older self-made plaid-jacketed and white shoed Jewish car dealership owner. Morty has a slight Jewish shtick, and is usually over-the-top, overbearing, and who always thinks he knows best (and often does).

[MARGE BERNSTEIN] Female. Late 50’s – Late 60’s. Caucasian. 5’6”-5’10”. Will be wigged. Average build. Your typical Jewish Aunt, always concerned with everyone’s business. Marge knows best, and lets everyone around her know it on a regular basis, in particular her husband Morty. Smokes ridiculously long cigarettes.

[CHARISSE] Female. 20’s. Caucasian . 5’6”-5’10”. Slim to Average build. Charisse is just waitressing to get through school. She’s only casually interested that her favorite customers, the Bernstein’s, are there for the evening, but when she learns that David and Ethan are doctors, she returns to the Bernstein table to put on a show of over-the-top flirting with David. She goes through a complete character arc that takes place in 3 minutes.

[BJ] Female. Late 20’s – Early 30’s. Caucasian or Hispanic. 5’2”-5’8”. Slim to Average build. BJ is a overly made-up hooker who knows the streets. Chews gum and smokes at the same time.

[CANDY] Female. Late 20’s – Early 30’s. Caucasian or Hispanic. 5’2”-5’8”. Slim to Average build. Candy is a overly made-up hooker who knows the streets. Chews gum and smokes at the same time.

[INGA] Female. Early 20’s. Caucasian. 5’3”-5’8”. Blonde hair. Slim build. A foreign exchange student from Sweden, who is looking to have fun. Requires Swedish accent.

[JOHANNA] Female. Early 20’s. Caucasian. 5’3”-5’8”. Slim build. A foreign exchange student from Sweden, who is looking to have fun. Requires Swedish accent.

[PIMP] Male. Late 40’s – Early 50’s. Asian. 5’2”-5’8”. Slim to Average build. A most unlikely pimp, speaks with semi broken English. Threatens David and Ethan with violence.

[BICYCLIST 1] Female. African American/Black. 20ish. Athletic build as a bicyclist would be. She’s on her way to protest oil companies and confronts David and Ethan. Must be able to physically ride a bicycle.

[BICYCLIST 2] Female. 20ish. Athletic build as a bicyclist would be. Must be able to physically ride a bicycle.
