Perspective for site concept

My friend has an idea for an indie website, in which we want to distribute films etc. But we really want to know what key points people are looking for. Perspective of consumer and film maker. We have a few ideas, but I thought bringing it here would be helpful as everyone here seems to be quite brilliant in their advice, and in their fields of expertise.
