How to get your script copyright

Hey guys - after you've finish your final draft (no pun intended) what is the best way to get it copyrighted and also, the best way to get an opportunity to potentially sell the screenplay?

Go to copyright.gov

The best way to get an opportunity to potentially sell the screenplay is
quite complicated. I wish there was "best" way. There a lot of contests
to enter.

The most common way to sell a screenplay is to be in the business and
know the right people.

The question you are asking does not have an answer. There isn't a best
way, there isn't a more common way. Each writer has a different story
about how they sold a screenplay.

Who is your favorite screenplay writer? Look up how that person sold their
first screenplay. THAT is the best way. But there are many paths that lead
to selling a screenplay. ALL of them are the best way.
Aren't there websites?
Hundreds. Perhaps a few thousand.

Aren't there websites?
There are websites everywhere in the interwebs.

There are millions of scriptwriters trying to do the same as you. This combined with the fact that very few producers are in a position to be able to afford to buy, finance and produce said script, the first step in your challenge is finding one and to get one of them to read your script instead of the million or so other scripts. They don't exactly hang out on websites, they're busy making films.

You need to figure out how you can stand out from your competition. Why is your script so much better than the scripts from the highly paid professionals who are also schlepping their scripts.
