Panasonic HDC-TM700?

I was going to buy this one actually, but the one thing that I was looking for the TM700 didn't have and that was XLR inputs. But the footage I've seen from it looks very very good!

My DVX is bust and I'm looking for an inspiring replacement. This looks good to me:

Looks like a rival to the Canon HV20/40 and Vixias. I'd be hard pushed to choose, from what I've seen.

Yeah, PositiveFuture, I looked at some of those, too, and also thought they looked pretty nice. Did you see this one? It's a review of the HDC-HS700. If I'm not mistaken, the CNET reviewer said that it's essentially the same camea as the TM700...minus the "unnecessary" large hard drive. Left me feeling pretty inspired (if it's all to be believed). And it's pretty entertaining.

Also, did you see the snail one? Set to the 1080p viewing mode, it looks pretty gorgeous.

Those are some lush looking snails. If I ever need anyone to shoot some snails, I will hire that guy in a heartbeat.

I never read cam reviews, I just get headaches. I look for test vids on youtube and see if the general buzz is good. I spent 2 months reading cam reviews in 07 when I had 2000 pounds saved up. All of the tech talk went out the window when I saw the trailers for Iraq in Fragments and was sold in a minute.

You never forget your first prosumer cam.

What's it like in low light? Does it have 1/12, 1/6, or 1/3 shutter options?

There's something about Panasonic's colours that just give it the edge over Canon, for me.
When I look with my head, Canon's are sharper, but when I relx and use my heart, Panasonic's vids pull me in more.

The grain looks a little like S-16 footage. It's grainy but bearable.

But a 7D is still currently my dream cam... Ideally I'd shoot on a high level Panasonic and a Canon.

Dammit you've got me hooked now. This is an inspiring film shot on that camera. One of the best shorts I've seen recently. Great colors and good visual storytelling:

Hahah, I know, you're right...not much need for snail footage. :P

So what do you think of the low light performance?

Yeah, Subway is an interesting short, thanks for sharing it.

You had a DVX-100? So, shouldn't you be looking at a HVX-200? :P (Why didn't I have any luck finding HD video shot with the HVX-200?).

Oh dear. I watched a film shot with the 7D. Screw the TM700. :P

Yup, the 7D is a better camera... but it's also double the price. I've heard of people getting them for around a thousand dollars.

I'm saving money at the moment. The HVX is a step up, sure, but I haven't seen any outstanding footage shot with it yet. Everything looks too real, and slightly artificial.

I'd like to be proved wrong though... If anyone has awesome HVX footage, that looks like it justifies the price tag, please post it.

So what do you think of the low light performance?

I'm not an expert but it looks OK. Low light capability is really important to me.

Yep i am using it and i truly love it :) it's perfect :)
Me too
But you should really use a mic or record the sound external. The quality of the internal mic is not outstanding and you can hear the cooling fan in your footage.
The quality of the videos is really awesome if you use the 1080p mode. I like the manual focus help, that shows you on the display which areas are focused at the moment.
