SUPER 8

Just got my first super 8 camera. Does anyone have any feed back on the BENTLEY BX-720. Even though I want to use what happened to fall into my hands for free. I can hardly see what I'm shooting through the viewer and (no there are no smudges on the glass), it's just really tiny. I am on a quest to know the ins and outs of the Super 8 format by the end of June as I would like to start shooting my short film in July. If this camera does not work out I have been reading good things about the Braun Nizo and Minolta XL-601. Any feed back would be so helpful.

The Nizo's are nice cameras and I once owned the Minolta. I remember
it as a nice, solid camera with a pretty good lens. And the only thing I
about the Bently is they were consicered pretty terrible cameras. I don't
think the lens has a zoom, it only records at 18fps and I don't think
it has any manual controls.

And now I hear from you that viewfinder is too small to see well.

Without any actual experience with that camera, I don't think it sounds
like a keeper.

The three best - in my opinion - are:
Beaulieu 4008 ZM II - I shot two features with this camera.
Nikon R10 - the first camera I ever bought
Canon 1041 XL-S - a solid camera with a great lens and pretty good under
low light conditions.

The others:
Canon 514 XL-S and 814 XL
Elmo 612S-XL / 1012S-XL
Bauer and Elmo make solid cameras on the lower end.

You're welcome.

The features are no longer available. There were very low budget direct
to video horror films that played out long ago. Never even made it to
DVD.

The Rank Cintel transfer was done to a one inch tape format and I can't
seem to find a post house that has such an old machine so I guess I'll
someday have to just digitize from my VHS (or maybe Beta) copies.
