My data got lost this way, how do I prevent this in the future?

I shot a scene, and tried to upload the sound data to the laptop afterwords. During this the computer jammed, and stopped uploading. I waited about half an hour for it to try to sort itself out, but it was still jammed. So I tried to cancel the upload and try again, but it wouldn't respond. I waited but still no response. I tried to cancel it from both ends, the laptop, and the field recorder. But the field recorder would not respond either.

So I had no choice to shut off the computer but it would not shut off and neither would the field recorder. I kept trying and nothing. So I had to cut the power to both. The data was lost afterwords and their was nothing left on the field recorder.

Any idea of how to prevent this from happening if a jam occurs again, so I don't have to reshoot?

Use a data wrangler. That way, if it does happen, you'll still need to reshoot but you'll know before you leave the set. Other than that, I guess use better equipment.
