Interesting filmmaker websites

This thread is for people to post interesting filmmaker websites they have discovered in their online travels so that others may visit these sites for their own purposes. If you find a website that you think will be a good resource for filmmakers or could be a good website for filmmakers to visit because of any services they provide then post them in this thread.

I found this website: http://www.greenlightmymovie.com/

Has anyone heard of this website before? From the website's description:

"Have a short film, web series, book, pilot script or screenplay? Maybe you just have a movie pitch or an idea for a TV show. If you’re looking for representation or a buyer for your project, submit and/or pitch your material directly to Hollywood production companies, studios, agencies and management companies via Greenlightmymovie – for a guaranteed response!"

Looking at the prices of registration, these are the costs for submission:

1 Submission = $39.95
5 Submissions = $175.00 ($35.00 per submission)
10 Submissions = $299.50 ($29.95 per submission)

Thats AWESOME! Thanks for sharing.

I don't have anything to that caliber, and I'm sure most everyone has seen most of what I post, but worth mentioning:

The few guys I check into on youtube:
Though I find Ryan Connolly kinda deuchtastic, he does some awesome stuff and speaks clearly often: https://www.youtube.com/user/filmriot?feature=g-subs-u
This guy was my savior during my lowest budget work: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvsCvArJ8fI73NeKAOJKbyA
Indy Mogul, of course: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGZ0LgTmAJn9Banetdr_ZFg

Also, Vimeo's stuff is also pretty clear:
https://vimeo.com/videoschool

Some Vimeo Groups that rock:
https://vimeo.com/groups/magiclantern
https://vimeo.com/groups/filmschool
https://vimeo.com/groups/weekendchallenge

Magic Lantern for the Canon users, I go for all the updated "unstable" hacks, they're worthwhile to play with and teach yourself: http://www.magiclantern.fm/releasenotes

Though upwards of half of their stuff is true CRAP, fstoppers.com still has some value, especially in keeping up with new tech. I've found their car photography articles very well written, and many gem videos.

I've found work on features, shorts, commercials, television, public access, and with some other individual clients through the craigslist.com crew and creative gig sections. Very worthwhile to check in on regularly, I also check simplyhired.com and indeed.com for freelance work on occasion, as well.

This site has some big prizes for some fun projects, I've done a few just for the hell of it! LOTS of quality competition, too: http://genero.tv/

The withoutabox.com newsletter is great to subscribe to. As is the criterion.com one!

My go-to royalty free music site: http://freemusicarchive.com/
My go-to font website: dafont.com
A subscription based music site, but very worthwhile: http://www.dewolfe.co.uk/

Minneapolis has a few great sites specifically for local work,
Our film and TV production board with a sometimes decent classifieds section: http://www.mnfilmtv.org/
We also are lucky to have a very cool crew and cast call site: http://www.samaritancasting.com/

That's about all I can think of at the moment, I'll post more if I can think of it. Looking forward to seeing everyone else's links!

Personally I'd 100% avoid this. Sure we all want our scripts (and shorts) made into features but there are dozens of sites that offer a chance at being 'greenlighted' that in fact give you no chance, they're simply cleverly thought out ways to take money from writers and short-directors. The reality - they are designed to make their owners rich and take your $$$ by appealing to your hopes and dreams. Avoid them. This one has a very professional looking-website - that means little, web developers these days can build you a great website for not much $$$.

If you have a great script, enter it into the Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting and Austin Film Festival screenwriting contest.

If you have a great short, stick to the well known film festivals and your local ones.

Sure the chances of being discovered are still slim but at least they're not merely a means of ripping you off. The Nicholl Fellowship is non-profit. Sundance used to be, not sure if it still is.

Indeed.

I've found the following website very useful. The subscription is normally very expensive, but every so often they run deals... I think about two years ago I got a deal for $99 a year, and I just pay it every year and they don't stop the deal.

It offers some great After Effects templates, some awesome music that's yours to use as a subscriber, and some great stock footage should you need it.

The only downside I'd have is that Youtube doesn't seem to be accepting their license as valid, so there's a backing track from them I keep using that Youtube isn't letting me monetize. But, I don't blame Videoblocks, I blame Youtube and their terrible management over that aspect of their site.

Here's the site: http://www.videoblocks.com/
