Hi All,
I am just wondering, I have noticed a lot of short films having a separate director and producer involved.
My question is, what is a Producer's role in a short film? Naturally a lot of shorts don't have any budget
Thanks in advance!
Corey
I have always used a producer on my short films. In my experience
the producer handles the "business" end of the production leaving
me to focus on the creative aspects. I want to do a table read; the
producer sets the place, the time and call the actors. I find a location
I like; the producer contacts the owner. We decide on the shooting
dates; the producer contacts the cast and crew - if there are conflicts
with the date the producer will work out the changes and details.
On the shoot dates the producers makes sure everyone is notified
and shows up, the producer assures that everyone bringing equipment
brings what they promised - if anything is missing or forgotten the
producer makes sure the issue is taken care of. If the location owner
has a question or concern the producer can talk with them and handle
any issues while the director is working with the actors and crew.
There are hundreds of things a producer can do to allow the director
a creative environment.
