Any other fans of "Tapeheads"?

I just realized I can't remember ever seeing this film referenced around here, which seems odd as about every third line is highly quotable in the context of indie film making.

It's a mid-80's screwball comedy starring Tim Robbins and John Cusack as a couple of wanna-be filmmakers trying to break into the music video business, while paying the bills making videos for pet psychics, local commercials, funerals, etc. It was produced by Michael Nesmith (of the Monkees) and has a ton of music industry cameos, plus a great soundtrack by Fishbone, Devo, etc. Some sort of legal disagreement resulted in it never getting a theatrical release, so it's pretty much unknown to the general public despite having recognizable stars.

It's not a great piece of cinema by any means - but I watch it at least a couple times a year because it's pretty hilarious and so relatable to anyone making videos on the outside of the industry...

Never forget the master plan - we do what we gotta do, so we can do what we want to do...

I hadn't heard of it until the T&A reference that ZenSteve posted, now I'm actively looking for it!

I love me some John Cusack.

Is it on the US NetFlix? I'm thinking about signing up for one of those proxy services...

Unfortunately no, it's not on netflix or amazon streaming right now. My local cable system (comcast) has it on pay-per-view, but that's all I've seen. They did a decent release on DVD a few years back which I've got, not many extras (basically a CD with the finale song and a small booklet) but it's a decent anamorphic transfer of the film. Unfortunately it looks like that may be out of print now as amazon only lists it from individual sellers:

The T&A line is one of those that things that I find myself quoting almost absentmindedly whenever we're shooting and trying to make something look good with no resources...

"There's only one thing that adds real... 'production value'."
"What's that?"
"Tits. And Ass."

In fact nearly every Mo Fuzz line in the movie is quotable...

"Am I crying?"
"No."
"Well it wouldn't surprise me if I was. I was moved. I can't do anything with this."

Found this interesting interview with Mike Nesmith where at the end he essentially predicts the youtube generation - he was just running a few years too early:
