XLR to USB

Units like that work okay. The Blue Icicle is about $35, but doesn't have any of the controls.

I'm not partial to USB interfaces, I prefer firewire. There are quite a few nice firewire interfaces for under $500, the Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 for about $250 is a decent deal and the $200 TC Electronic Konnekt 6 has a good rep.

It would be a big help if you detailed your other audio gear, computer, DAW/NLE, etc. plus your usage requirements (VO, production sound, Foley, etc.).

Hey. Thanks for the reply.
All i have at the moment is my macbook:

Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz

I will probably have a Macbook pro with firewire interface in the future.
I would be planning to use it with a hypercardiod like the AT4053b for everything. Basically i am trying to see if it is feasible to use a USB/firewire interface and laptop, as a field recorder.
