Branded Content and Festivals

Hi all,
Iv been noticing branded content for a while now and wonder if there is a festival path for such?

This film is obviously created for a brand.. so what does that mean to a creator who wants to leverage the resources of a brand but still wants to show at festivals? Do you think most festival judges would reject it automatically?

I've worked on a couple of these and with Directors who have made others. They are essentially a long-form television commercial, and in fact agencies will often be employed in between, the same as a TVC.

The Director, Producer or Production Company hold no more rights over the film than they would a standard TVC. The company could buy (or submit) into a film festival, but it's their prerogative.

If you approached a company with an idea and were employed to make it, the case might be a little different, but it's not likely and it would be expressly written in your contracts exactly who had ownership and what could/couldn't be done with the film and who could do such with it.
