Final Cut Pro

I am editing with Final Cut Pro (first timer)... I drag clips to the time line but I do not attached them to the clip to the right or left. I first want to see what the film looks like from start to finish and decide if I have to do any reshooting. After that I will connect the clips. Next I will worry about sound and then I'll tackle effects like dissolves etcetera. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If you double click the clip, you can watch through the whole thing in the viewer, then set the "in point" (i) and the "out point" (o). After that, you can drag the video from the viewer to the timeline. This is just about the same process you're using now, but keeps the timeline less cluttered.

I always hit the sound last after everything else as some of the dissolves will alter how the you want it to sound.
