What type computor to edit ect?

I think all computers will handle that codec. But not all NLE's do.
I know Final Cut doesn't so all AVCHD files need to be converted.

Premiere handels AVCHD nativly since CS4. Also Sony Vegas supports it.
As for system specs, I'd say if you're not doing anything fancy, a recent Intel DualCore with 4GB of Ram should do fine. In fact, any pc you buy at your local pc-store for 'round 500$ will be just fine for hd-editing.

I am not looking for special effects editing (at least I don't think I will) but mainly editing. Since I haven't done it at all (except fooling around with vhs tapes and two vcrs in the 80's) I am a total novice and am sort of antipating issues later on.
I guess the next question then is what is the primary difference between the cheaper editing sytsem and pricier one.
