BAFTA Award

Son of Saul which got released in 2015 was nominated for Oscars and Golden Globes in 2016, but when it came to BAFTA it was nominated only in 2017.

Likewise, The Salesman which got released in 2016 was nominated for Oscars and Golden Globes in 2017, but when it came to BAFTA it was nominated only in 2018.

Does that mean, for the foreign language film, BAFTA has 2 year window period instead of 1 year window period? Does anyone know why? (For other categories, BAFTA has only 1 year window period.) Initially I thought foreign language films might take some time to get attention, that's why BAFTA is giving 2 year window periods. But I noticed that BAFTA Award (mid Feb) comes in between Golden Globes (Jan) and Oscar (late Feb/Early Mar), so that could not be the reason.

I am a film student. I am just curious why foreign language films have 2 year window periods for BAFTA Award where all the other biggies give only 1 year window period. That's all.

Thanks.
