Ive never seen Patrick McGoohan's The Prisoner, but according to my dad it is certainly the sort of thing that I would like.
Ill keep an eye out for it :)

I voted for sci fi. I love the genre, except that most sci fi's fall short of the credibility threshold. I think it's a lack of imagination. Personally, I despise most of what comes out of Hollywood. This film "factory" only proves that you don't need vision or imagination to produce a film. I was a projectionist for four years, and it always amazed me that Hollywood studios would spend multi millions on a film, and then distribute their prints to theaters which pay their film "handlers" just a bit above minimum wage. This is probably different in the bigger cities, but in central Texas, this seemed to be the norm. it's rediculous! I've mostly stopped going to movies for these reasons. I'm very selective.

On the sci fi note, there's so much research coming out of science right now that could be used as the subtext to some great sci fi stories. I think the Matrix is a good example of this.

I voted animation.
i love it and everything about it, simple as that. if given the right amount of resources there is so much that can be applied into an animated film. anyone whos seen any miyazaki films like princess mononoke can see how well an idea from someones head can be portrayed so accurately, and how such fantasy would not be the same if made in any other medium.
i suppose animation ideas can be portrayed so accurately because the film makers have complete control on everything, right down to the main character's hair movements.

"You are number 6." -- "I am not a number, I am a free man!"

I agree with Poke about general story telling, though I love to make folks laugh. I also think the documentary is incredibly important for human evolution and history preservation. But I voted for experimental cuz I'm feeling creative right now. Must be the beers.

"Who is number 1?"

err, by "the prisoner" you do mean that funky british tv program?

well i agree with Lloyd the Great, or is that just Lloyd? his "lost in a world he doesnt understand" genre is quite good. Brazil is one of my all time top ten. but i would have to say all genres are good for me. Except fantasy, not a big fan. except LOTR, Legend etc. but havent seen to much fantasy.

i write comedy plays/scripts professionally (stand up comic and all), but i write the more serious stuff as a hobby, but everything i write i find is injected in some way with my own humour (except on forums) - even when it shouldn't be, such as that outrageous speech i gave at a friend's wedding (i did warn him!!!!!)........

Your poll is too limited. You should be able to vote for more than one genre.

Personally I write westerns, comedies, action/thriller and drama...and I'm just getting warmed up.

Fiction holds little interest for me as there is so much that is true in life that needs to be on film. So Historical Drama and Biography would be high on my list with comedy a close second as in Drama with a sense of humor. True stories also include Action, War, History, Love Stories, Murder and Crime.

I really enjoy leaving the theatre havein learned something.

Horror is king because hollywood doesn't pay attention to it . And I love that. Rob Zombie once said "Making a horror movie in Hollywood is like making a porn." :D

I put down comedy, but the comedy that I write isn't anywhere close to the comedies that have a combination of Luke Wilson/Owen Wilson/Will Ferrell/Ben Stiller/Jack Black/Steve Carell/VInce Vaugh/Ben Stiller or all together.

Besides any time I try to write the scene where the family cries over the casket of the dead patriarch, somebody puts in a brick a weed and everybody laughs during the cremation. The next Fassbinder I definitely am not.

I chose all. Simply due to the fact that I'm working on making it to all these genre sometime. I've done comedy and find it pretty easy. Shoot until everyone laughs and then put together the funniest deliveries in editing. I'm working on a romantic comedy with a thriller twist now, I'm finding drama much more difficult to deliver as a director than comedy. Of course, my friends and I do extemporaneous comedy for 5 hours a day 7 weekends out of the year at the local renaissance festival, so we all understand the timing, content and delivery of funny. I've been practicing it for the past 20 years or so.

Drama seems foreign (but challenging) to me as a director. I know when it's done right, but have little experience getting it there. That will be next year's project. I have another friend who will be doing some sci-fi stuff, so I'll get some experience there...talk to me in another year or two...I'll let you know then.
