East End Film Festival now open for submissions!

Calling all filmmakers....your number has come up. The East End Film Festival is delighted to open its call for submissions today!

2010 was a good year for us. Smashing audience attendance records once again, and expanding to host more then 200 films screenings, masterclasses, site specific events and monumental parties across London's historic East End, we brought the best local and international film talent to the most creative part of London. Most importantly it was the strongest line-up that we've ever had, featuring several films that went on to win awards and acclaim both at other festivals and on wider release. Whether it be local filmmakers introducing their work in the cinemas where they were first inspired, the best new Russian cinema, human rights documentaries or the unique locations we used for our film and music events, then the EEFF was the place to come, sealing our reputation as one of the UK's fastest growing film festivals.

The EEFF strikes the perfect balance between celebrating the local and the international, with one foot in the East End and other spanning the globe. Now we want to do it all over again: next year's East End Film Festival will take place from 27 April to 2 May 2011, and is set to be even better than the last. We're throwing open the programme to filmmakers from both the East End of London and the wider film community, calling for the best new fiction, documentary, music and experimental film, whether of short or feature length. The only barrier to entry is quality, and from last year's line-up we know that there are exciting filmmakers out there waiting to be discovered.

This year the festival is taking submissions via the brilliant withoutabox system. Withoutabox is a quick, cheap and environmentally friendly way to submit your film to dozens of festivals, with the minimum of fuss. For those that aren't familiar with it, please visit withoutabox.com to register. It's free, and simply involves filling in one master form with the details of your film. Once this is completed, you can use the withoutabox system to find film festivals for which you are eligible, and enter them within a matter of minutes. The site also uses a system called Secure Online Screeners, which allows secure viewing of your film as an alternative to hard copies. In short it makes submitting your work to film festivals that much easier! It also includes extra benefits such as automatically creating an IMDB page for your film, which is invaluable for raising your film's profile.

As part of our commitment to fostering local talent, the EEFF this year is proud to offer filmmakers from the East End free submission to the festival (see website for more details). Unfortunately we are having to charge a small administration fee for other filmmakers, but we have made every effort to keep this to a minimum. Submissions are open now, and those that those that submit their work to us before Friday 26 November will receive an early bird discount. Submissions close Friday 28 January.
