movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

I recently watched BURNT (2015) starring Bradley Cooper. 6/10

It's a film about a washed up chef who's about to reclaim glory by obtaining his 3rd Michelin star. Its a story about repairing old wrongs and making amends by reaching culinary perfection, however, there's no real connection to the main character. Bradley Cooper is arrogant, angry, and unlikeable with no real redeeming qualities other than he can cook and was once quite hansome.

At the end of the film I was left felling like nothing much had really changed. The character arch didn't reach any new heights and Cooper's character hadn't really learnt anything new apart from learning to chill out a bit.

In this humble viewers opinion if you want to watch a great film about cooking you'd be better off watching one of these:

1. Chef (2014) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2883512/

2. Ratatouille (2007) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382932/

3.Toast (2010) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1658851/

4. La Grande Bouffe (1973) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070130/

and lastly my mum's favourite

5. Chocolat (2000) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0241303/

Are you crazy 2001 A Space Odyssey was way beyond its time. It deserves a 10. Ragnarok was ok, same as Justice League.

Been trying to watch a Christmas film every day in December. Today was The Santa Clause 2.

I give this a solid 8/10. This was one of my favourite Christmas films as a kid and it holds up. Funny, moving and action packed.

Radius - cool sci fi flick, I wondered how they would keep the plot up for a whole movie and I was satisfied. a few bizarre day-for-night scenes that didn't quite sell

Game of Thrones: Season Seven. Very good. Maybe 8 out of 10? Maybe I should give it a higher number. It's especially difficult to figure that when the bar is so high for this series. Not the best of the seasons, in my tentative judgement, but still A-grade. Been working through the books. Interesting to see the show diverge from them more and more in the later seasons. But I think I "get" their choices, so far. Anyway…that way the books retain a life of their own, which is a good thing.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2. Maybe 8.5 out of 10. Quite entertaining, while not quite as good as the first film. But it's even more sentimental, which I like.

The Hatred. Meh. Not bad. But sorry to say, if you watch the trailer you've seen the best few moments (the bed scene) the film has to offer. The rest is not so good by quite a bit. 5/10. Had more potential, I think though.

The Farthest: Voyager in Space (Netflix). Very nice documentary. 9/10

Hail, Caesar! - 7
Fun light Coen bros film about the old studio system.
I must've liked it cuz I like those old movies & recognize the homages.

Blackcoat's Daughter Available on Amazon Prime. Not sure what I think of it. Not sure what is going on in the story, exactly. That's in part why. It does have fairly nice atmosphere, largely thanks to a nice soundtrack. Well, I tend to like slow burners, and I love them when done well. Is this a slow burner, though, or just a film in which not a lot really happens until the end…and then the more action packed denouement is not so much a denouement but something rather inexplicable that doesn't really feel like it follows? Let's say I found it not quite satisfactory there—my initial response.

It has a twist; I think it's appropriate to say. The twist is that it's a
slasher
(genre). I put it in spoiler tags because I suppose that would be a spoiler. Huh. The thing is, the difficulty is, that
slashers
have their fans as well as those who are not generally fans. So it's kind of strange to make it a twist. If you're a fan, then great. If not, then not so much. Eh. I don't know. I'd like to compare it to other films, but such comparisons would, I guess, be spoilers.

Is it fair to say The Shining is a slow burner? I think maybe so. I keep thinking of The Shining as sort of a slow burner comparison with maybe similar tension. If that's fair, then it's not in bad company.

I think maybe 6/10. If I were judging it only by story, then I think I'd give it a lower score, maybe 4 or 5. But, I think at least it's worth a viewing by filmmakers and enthusiasts who are interested in slow burners, mood, atmosphere, and how a good score and take you far…do some of the heavy lifting for you.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge 5. If you look form a movie with a annoying cliches and characters that stay the same even after 14 years, look no further. 3/10

Cars 2. What a mess... 2/10

Cars 3. Passing, editing, story. This movie is not for even a second a boring. 8/10

Downsizing
2/5

Everyone walked out of the theatre feeling hoodwinked.
I turned around at the crowd and asked if that was what anyone expected. All I saw were disappoined faces shaking 'no'

This wasn't a comedy, nor was it an adventure film.

It was a straight up drama romance film.
There's literally only one "oversized" prop in the entire film.

My son's and I watched "Kingsman" over New Years. My sons (26 and 46) thought it was the greatest movie since "The Phantom Menace", I thought it was the BIGGEST POS I've seen since "The Ridiculous Six". 2/10
