Finished shooting a feature on the DVX using a ME66 and some lav's for audio. We ran directly into the camera and I was less that pleased with the results. Very difficult to dial in the levels where they are strong but not too hot where they would constantly peak.
For our next project we have secured some funds that will allow us to get some better gear and I am trying to figure out which direction to go.
I'm interested in both of these directions.
A field mixer with inline peak limiters and high pass filters. I would still track the audio to the DVX.

or
A digital audio recorder with peak limiters and highpass filters. We would have to be meticulous with marks and sync but I would have greater control over the overall sound.

Any thoughts on these situations? Just trying to do my homework.
