Hey! Heather from Howcast's Emerging Filmmakers Program here again. We just launched a series of hysterical how-to's on making your first independent film.

Lots of filmmakers I know dream of making their first feature length film. They may do all kinds of work to pay the bills and flex some creative muscle in the meantime (including making Howcast spots), but the ultimate would be writing and directing a very personal project. I've made a number of shorts, but I know I too hope to someday tackle a feature.

With those beginner filmmakers in mind, Howcast is introducing a series of eight how-to videos on making an independent film. They cover all the basics, from writing to budgeting, shooting to editing. Together they comprise a great primer for newbies, but I suspect even experienced directors will get some inspiration, or at the very least a smile, from these super spots. (Especially the real indie film lovers who remember Todd Haynes' Superstar.)

Those films can be a realy good help for anybody wanting to make a movie. Good work!
The only problem I see is that someone new to film might be overpowered by this mass of information. It might scare some people. An introduction movie might be nice. In that you tell the people that making such a movie from a-z may last for years and that there are several people for different parts of the work. Discribing the jobs of different parts of the crew also would be nice as at the moment it looks like you have to do that all by yourself. You could involve that in the single parts. Budgeting is more production stuff etc.
