Canon introduced three new cameras for sale in April:
$749 entry-level Rebel T7i;
$899 prosumer-focused 77D;
$779 mirrorless camera, the M6.

Things that are interesting to me:
None are in 4k
Cameras all have wifi, bluetooth and NFC
You can take 6 stills a second. Way way faster than my old t2i.

Things that I don't understand:
It has a cheap wireless remote to take pictures or zoom, but it says nothing about focus. Why would you do all that but not let people focus with it? Isn't focusing like.. THE most important wireless functionality?

Exciting to me:
A cheap wide angle zoom lens is coming! It even has image stabilization.

They're entry-level cameras. Hence no 4k, focus on quick shooting and wireless connectivity. Much more important for someone on holiday to wirelessly zoom and press the shutter. Focus doesn't matter so much given it's more than likely to be set on auto focus...

A huge amount of entry-level users who buy 'cheap' DSLRs because they're 'better picture quality than a compact' never move the mode slider off Full Auto/green square

So is this wide angle zoom lens!! I want it but I don't have any pressing needs so i'm not getting it

I dunno... 18-55 is a handy range, but now that I have all constant-aperture zooms, I'm kinda spoiled. This is prefty much a slightly improved version of the kit lens. That's fine and all, and the kit 18-55 has always been under-appreciated for what it can do, but there are MUCH better solutions out there.

But it's soooooo cheap

All the other wide angle lenses are like $800 or more

If you're not using it yeah absolutely. Thanks!

The only wide angle lens I have doesn't have a zoom option.
And it makes a noise when I focus :lol:

I have a metric ton of Canon glass that I don't use, including multiples of some lenses. I have acquired a bunch of EF-S stuff that does me little to no good since I shoot on 5Ds and I prefer primes. My 2 go-to zooms are the 24-70mm f2.8 L II and the 70-200mm F2.8 L. I am considering the 16-35 f2.8 L II for when I need a bit wider of a view. I will have a look at the glass on my shelves and let you know what I have.

These cameras are out now so i thought i'd bump the post..

A slow kit lens...? This lens has been out for years, though this may be a new incarnation...

I haven't used it in a long while, but last I did I found it overall a boring, slow, mushy (soft as) lens. I have a 24-70 f4 for my A7s (roughly equivalent FOV for full frame) and it is my most boring lens. Not wide or long enough to do anything particularly creative with.

I mean, yeah I've taken some shots I'm really happy with using it... But just consider first if there's not a lens you might prefer more... it's fairly ubiquitous, I'm sure you could pick up a cheap one secondhand, and could likely find one to borrow for a while to see if you like it or not.
