For stock, yes.

If you have something original then there will always be people interested in buying your stuff.

I have a friend who does time-lapse for corporations, event companies, construction companies, and government agencies. Often the footage is for archival or promotional video. For instance the event companies would use the time-lapse footage of their stage being built or the convention floor being built out. They then add this to their yearly reel. It's only a part of my friends business. How much a part, I don't know.
