Director in NY or NJ

Dang, you didn't need to remove it completely! But it was discriminatory and sexist. Can you imagine if I put out an ad calling for a male director? What if I put out an ad for a white director?

How do you know a dude can't handle the same material? Why limit yourself?

Yeah, well, a lot of what-ifs. We could go on all day.

Could a dude direct it? Of course, and I have chatted with several. Would I like to chat with one of the rare female directors out there? Yes.

Clearly I used the wrong approach.

I didn’t see the original post, but I’m with you, alex. I do not believe it
is sexist or discriminatory to look for a female director.

Clearly I used the wrong approach, and in the wrong forum. I'll find another venue.

You need to grow a thicker skin. ONE person has this reaction. ONE. And
now you suggest the entire forum feels the way this ONE person does. I'm
not going to call that discriminatory, but it sure is foolish.

Edited.

It has nothing to do with skin. I'm just so FREAKIN tired of PC. I feel a female director may interpret the material closer to what we envision, so I asked if one were interetsed, to contact me. I could be wrong, and with so few out there, I may never know.

Anyways, I'll try a different approach.

I really do not want to be that internet a-hole who quotes dictionary definitions, but you're almost forcing my hand. To specifically call for one gender is both discriminatory and sexist, and I'm not stating opinion -- that's fact.

So stand up to the PC police we have here. Show everyone you have
a thick skin and can challenge the ONE person who is so PC he feels
the need to stop you. Don't just cave in an back down. When you back
down the PC police win.

I'm behind your quest for a female director 100%. Let CF pull out his
dictionary and quote all he wants. So what? YOU want to talk to women
directors. Stand up. Tell the dictionary quoting PC cop that you are practicing
affirmative action. They understand that....

"positive steps taken to increase the representation of women and minorities in areas of employment, education, and business from which they have been historically excluded. "

The numbers for women in film - and certainly in DOP and the Director's chair - are pretty dismal, and not altogether from discrimination. It is a lifestyle choice as well, and I am not trying to push one agenda or another here. I simply wanted to see what a woman's take of the material from a director's perspective would be. It may or may not be a shred different, and I may not chose her in the end. At this point, I just wanted to have one - two's better - read the material and give me their thoughts.

Either way, I've pulled the call, and will select a director from the pool I have already collected. Some dang good talent among them.

Life goes on.

Ok, you took it there.

If you're going to compare this particular instance to affirmative action then that is just one more term that you show no understanding of. Affirmative action is something that only works on a wide, systemic level. A single individual hiring a single individual, cannot, by definition, employ the use of affirmative action. That single person is just being discriminatory.

Besides, how the fuck do you know if I support affirmative action? That conversation doesn't belong here.

I think it's really small-minded to dismissively label anyone as "PC Police" who might take offense to any exclusionary hiring practice. I might be the perfect director for this job, but we'll never know, cuz I've got the wrong chromosomes.

I have specifically looked for and hired women DP’s. I exclusively
use women as AD’s - when I put out work notices I specify I want
a woman for the job. Several years ago I tried to find and hire a
woman audio recordist. I didn’t get one resume. I know exactly
two women juicers and one grip. That’s unacceptable to me.

Asking specifically for a woman director is seen by some as sexist
and discriminatory. To them I say, “So what?”, YOU hire how you
want and leave me alone. They want to come and protest my set,
come protest my set. I, too, am tired of the PC police.

Tell THEM a producer is being sexist if he wants to interview women directors.

Congratulations on your arbitrary sexist hiring practices. What purpose does it serve, other than for you to feel, umm...Politically Correct? If I'm producing a film, I simply want the best damn DP I can find, gender is not an issue.

Nobody is being sexist if they interview women directors. But they are definitely being sexist if they exclusively interview women. And by the way, the "some" people you refer to -- those are the people who understand the meanings of the words "sexist" and "discriminatory".
