Shooting First Film In October. Need some pointers.

Hey guys, first time poster here. My name is Major Chimera and I am the head of an upstart production company, WYG1 Productions. We are a very tiny team, with only two of us heading up actual projects.

Here's my question(s); We are shooting our first film out in the desert (big bend national park) with a small budget and limited equipment.
We have a CX160 Handycam and a DSLR (sorry can't recall the type, it's my friend's camera) and a copuple tripods.

Considering we will be in the desert for one week, what are going to be our best options for:
-Sound Recording
-Lighting
-Power Supply

Any other general advice for a first timer would be great...
Thanks in advance, Indie Talk!

Replace the PMD-661 with the Edirol R-44 (get the Oade Brothers Super Mod - $1,100). That gives you four discrete channels of audio.

Replace the AT897 with the Rode NTG-3 ($700). A better sounding shotgun.

Add a Sound Devices MM-1 for the Boom-Op ($400).

Add two Sennheiser G3 wireless systems ($600 each) and two Countryman B-6 lavs ($300 each).
