Thats a good one but also check out La Dolce Vita(sweet life).
La Strada, perhaps.
start at the beginning and work your way forward. That way, you can trace the evolution and growth as it happens.
FOLLOW UP: Ok, if you don't feel like watching the whole collection, then start with La Strada.
I second "La Strada," but "Nights of Cabiria" is amazing. I also really love "Satyricon," but either see it in a theater, or on Blu-Ray -- lots of detail in that film.
I relate to your question because 10 years ago I couldn't watch DOLCE VITA to the end.
Now Fellini's films are my favorite.
I loved LA STRADA, but the film that draw me in was AMARCORD.
When I finally found for myself 8 1/2 (even though I've seen it before) I watched it for months, every day...
And there was no turning back...
I've seen all his films. Many times. And I feel the need to watch them again and again...
