Canon Optura 30 questions.....

Hey all,

Here are some questions I have about the new Canon Optura 30:

1. According to ZDnet, the Optura 30's digital video format is AVI. Will I be able to use a IEEE 1394 (FireWire) cable to plug it into my Mac to edit still?

2. The Canon Optura 30 has a 1/3.4" CCD with 2,200,000 pixels. However the specifications page at canondv.com says it has 1,230,000 effective pixels on tape, and 2,000,000 pixels
pixels on the card. So how many pixels does it have?

More to come, thank you for your help! :)

It will work on a Mac.

(Removed my comments on the avi... back to mystery status, as the memory stick on this records in MPEG as well, apparently)

Here are a couple of things you might want to look for, as well, when selecting a camera.

1) Manual White Balance
2) Manual Focus Ring
3) For the most part, ignore the fancy proclamations of "Digital Zoom".

Hope that helped. :)

p.s. Here is a Canon pdf file that shows the Mac emblem for the 30/40 Opturas.

-Zensteve,

The Optura 30 and 40 both have manual focusing, manual control of the white balance, and a 12x optical zoom.

Thanks for your help.....anything you can dig up about the pixel mystery is appreciated. :D
