Exclusions in Copyright Filing

Hi, all. I'm filing a copyright for a finished film and I can't tell if I have to file exclusions for the music. The movie isn't derived from the music, in any way, just your standard soundtrack and source music. it was all either work for hire or the rights were donated contractually. Any thoughts?

Did the contract for the work for hire specify that you will own the rights to the music for the said payment? If so, you claim yourself as the author and copyright owner.

Just say you are the author of a work made for hire.

The hirer owns all the rights.

or the rights were donated contractually

RTFM. Unless both parties are stupid, the terms will be in the contract. Try reading it. If its not covered by the contract, it'll fall to the local laws.

So what's the answer to donated tracks, or tracks for which rights were acquired for a fee?
