Using music legally?

I am currently stumped regarding what to do for music for my debut feature film. I would very much like to use the music of 'audiomachine', and their site states the music is made available for licensing. Does this mean if I email them and request use of their music it will be allowed?

However, it also says the music is not sold commercially, so does this mean it is not allowed to be used. Have any of you had any experience of a situation like this before?

The site: (http://www.audiomachine.com/about/)
Thanks in advance,
Burnsy

You are going to pay a licensing fee, and possibly royalties.

From the website:

HOW DO I LICENSE AUDIOMACHINE MUSIC?
If you are a music supervisor, editor or producer, you can send an email to info@audiomachine.com with all of the pertinent info included in your request.

Shoot-em an email and find out the particulars.

You also should not rule out an original score. There are many talented composers looking for work. I can't publicly discuss how much I paid the composers for the score to my first feature, but their fee was very reasonable, and worth every penny, ten times over.

It could get pretty expensive getting permission if you are trying to use popular music in your film. Your best bets are probably a) to find someone who is a composer that can create something along the lines of what you are looking for. Rates for that type of thing can vary a fair bit depending on who they are, how experienced or how well known. b) Alternatively, as was stated by a previous post, search for suitable music through existing libraries that license music for a set fee. Provided you stick to the terms of the license (whatever they are. Read the agreement as they vary between sites) you shouldn't have any problems with permissions. For example http://rocksuresoundz.com is one such site where you may find music that suits the sound style you are looking for.

One option, that is a combination of the 2 options described above, is to customize your royalty free music with SmartSound technology. SmartSound music is produced by professional artists that have produced music for feature films and TV scores. The music is made in a way that allows you to customize it to fit your production so that it sounds like a custom score. You can choose any length you want and still get a perfect musical into and ending. You can control the volume of each instrument to match what's happening on screen. You can change the timing of the music to fit events on your time line. It might sound complex, but it's really easy and it works great.
There is a large selection and you might want to start by looking at the "Film Score" section which is music specifically composed with film scores in mind.

Visit http://www.SmartSound.com for more info.
