canon xl1s

Does the canon xl1s have true 16:9 widescreen ratio? or is it simply cropped? In addition, are there any lenses available for the canon xl1s that would allow depth-of-field?

The XL1s merely stretches the picture it doesn't use the entire chip for 16X9 mode. This is what I've been told at least. Others who have more experience with the camera may know better. I am going to be doing a test shoot with the XL1s in the next month - in planning for my upcoming short, I'll try to post it if it's worth posting.
