More PA questions

Like I've said before, I'm hoping to work up the ladder, starting as a PA.

I'm 17, homeschooled (can work anytime for hours) but I CANNOT drive.
I have no problem working for free on the first couple of jobs.
Oh, and yes, I live by a major city. Chicago.

But how do I start?
Am I to just call up the chicago or illinois film commission and ask "Hi, are there any film shoots of any kind going on I can contact?"

There is a small christian network right by my house that's always looking for interns....should I contact them and say that I would be willing to work for them for a time for free? Would that be better experience to stay with a channel rather than a bunch of different shoots?

I really don't know how to start this, what to say, where to go, or anything!

I really appreciate the help!
Thanks.

You start by doing all the things you are currently THINKING about
doing. Call the film commission and contact the network that is
always looking for interns.

Like I said before, it might take more than a couple of non paid
gigs. Most people work for free on many movies before they get
paid. You have two obstacles that will make your ability to get
hired (even with no pay) more difficult.

Since you cannot drive that makes you less competitive in the job
market. Most PA's need to do a lot of driving.

Maybe you could work as an office PA rather than a set PA.

If you have ambition and drive you make your own ways, especially in this industry. You don't need anyone to tell you what to do.
