Best mic for...

I did a little digging around, but figured I'd just lay out what I needed because y'all seem like a really talented group of creators.

I'm filming for a youth event this weekend, and I need a microphone to use for student testimonials about the event. I have a H4N Zoom mic and I was looking into getting a lav mic, 1. because i could just have the kids clip it on and get close audio to them and 2. so I could get use out of it for doing prank videos in the future; because they're a lot of fun to shoot.

TL;DR :: Any suggestions for a worth while lav mic that would give professional audio for this event that'll plug into a H4N?

Thanks folks,
Ed

Hi Ed - it depends on how much you're able to budget, but my recommendations would be:

Below $500:

Sanken COS-11 w XLR jack - $449

Here's why: http://vimeo.com/15979250

Below $250:

Rode Lavalier - $244 (because you can plug it into just about anything)

Below $150:

Audio Technica AT803 - $149

All of these microphones have XLR outputs and will plug directly into your H4n.

Below $100, you'll end up with a consumer mic with unbalanced output, a 3.5mm jack and an adapter. Not recommended.

Hope this is helpful and good luck with your interviews!

Bill
