Steve Jobs Says Apple Computers Will Have No HDTV DVD Recorders

For the first time, Steve Jobs has acknowledged that he is facing a conflict between his position as head of Apple Computer and his position as head of Pixar Animation. In an interview with today's (Monday) Wall Street Journal, Jobs said that he had decided to wear his "Pixar hat" and to urge Hollywood not to release any of its movies on digital hi-definition TV until security software can be integrated into home theaters that sport high-definition recorders. He indicated that, for the time being, Apple computers will not be equipped with such recorders.

Are we affected by this? IMDB has the article

Any chance you can toss a few links in there? (I'm a lazy bum)

Meanwhile, in related Pixar related news... "Finding Nemo" is just one of hundreds of movies that are available for legitimate download over the 'net via a variety of methods.

They must have worked out a lot of copy-protection issues for this already, and no doubt are just looking ahead to stop piracy in advance on the next generation of Tivo's.

Here is a quote....

The Starz service uses technology from Real that allows the movies to be played only by a given subscriber and only within a certain time period. Each film will have an expiration date that coincides with its last showing on the cable station. The movies will be encoded so that they cannot be played after the expiration date.

...and for the NY-Times enabled, the link for the whole article.

The future of copy-protection is going to be most interesting indeed.
