It’s not a scam. Ted Chalmers has been around and he knows his
stuff.
However, no one can estimate the earning potential of a movie. I
suspect if you look at his “Sales Projections” of 20 horror films
you will find the numbers are all within a few hundred thousand of
each other. If he has done the sales projection on “Paranormal
Activity” he would not have estimated its potential at above
$100,000,000. And he would not have projected the sales potential
of “ShadowDead” at under $10,000. He would have projected both at
around $5,00,000.
He is offering a legit service, but it’s a service that had no,
real value. Taking his sales projection to a distributor won’t get
a filmmaker a dollar more than not having that projection. And
taking a sales projection he does on a script to investors won’t
mean even one dollar more, or increase your chances of finding an
investor.
Both distributors and investors know these sales projections are
purely speculative.
