Casting Name Actors

Several people have asked me recently how I've managed to cast name actors (meaning recognizable to the general public) in my indie features. Today's blog post explains how I've done it, although I'm sure plenty of people have successfully done it differently.

Casting Directors are essential. I advise everyone to watch the doc "Casting By".

The question I get the most is "How do I cast a name star with no money?"

Very nice read. The last few shows I've worked on have had extraordinary casting directors, and it really makes a huge difference.

I have a minor 'name' star for virtually nothing. However, I am having to re-write the short for her.

As a note, she was in movies that everyone here would recognise but she is not 'big.' However, big enough for me to have seen her on TV / movies.

Nice! Are you re-writing it because it will fit her better or because there's something that she wouldn't/couldn't do in the original version?

Two things:

1. It kinda focused the mind on the short. I realised it wasn't good enough
2. Need a bigger part for her.
