watch Doors In The Labyrinth - Carcosa (True Detective fan video)

Fanedit style video from the show True Detective for my song "Carcosa". Obviously spoilers if you haven't seen the show.

The song is from my upcoming release as Doors In The Labyrinth. You can download it, as well as the other demos here: https://soundcloud.com/doors-in-the-labyrinth/sets/2015-demos

The lyrics are from Robert W. Chambers' "The King In Yellow". The melody is by my friend Chuck Owston, who first did this song (as a spooky folk song) in 1994. The arrangement, performance and recording is by me. As a demo recording, this is more or less how I'm performing it live; when time for the actual recording rolls around, I'll give myself a little more freedom to do things I couldn't necessarily pull off by myself.

The intent of the video is as much to get my music up on youtube with something slightly more interesting than a still photo, as it is me being a fan of the show, and hopefully fans of some of the creepier aspects of the show might enjoy my music. A few friends have expressed interest in doing an actual video for me, so hopefully I'll have something better to share this summer. Also, as a musician and not an editor, I have no idea what I'm doing right in this, let alone doing wrong, so any feedback would be great!

Very much looking forward to season 2 of True Detective!

Thanks for listening, richy! Yeah, the show was intense...probably my favorite thing on tv that doesn't have dragons in it!

Thanks, Stuart! Glad you liked the music! The new season of the show starts on 6/21, I'm very much looking forward to it!

One year later, I've re-recorded the song from the demo to a full studio recording and put it on the EP I just released (https://doorsinthelabyrinth.bandcamp.com/). S2 was rushed and clumsy, but I enjoyed it. HBO decided to give the creator all the time he needed for S3, and now it's looking like that won't happen and he'll have a new project instead. That's cool too, as long as he takes his time and does it as well as S1! Anyway, thought it's time to update the video with the new recording:

Mostly the same, though I did need to rework a bit where the bridge changed before the solo. The music has definitely developed in the past year, since starting this project! We'll see where the next year takes me!
