DVD question

Does a DVD that was burned from an MP4 file play on as many different DVD players as a DVD that was burned from an mpeg-2 file? I thought somebody told me that Mpeg2 is more favored for creating a dvd, as it is playable on more, on a wider range of different machines than MP4. Is there any truth to this? I find it very confusing.. any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

DVD-players don't read regular datadisks.
You really need to create a playable DVD and in that case the video indeed mpeg-2 with muxed or demuxed audio.

Encore by Adobe can encode the video for you if it is not encoded into the right codec yet and create the DVD.
